Welcome to the RFID site
The time is right to embrace Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The technology is proven. The costs are affordable and the benefits can be truly transformational.
RFID tagging allows an object to carry identification and descriptive information in a form that can be read at a distance using safe low-power radio frequency signal transmitted from a reader. It is the combination of traceability, handling efficiency and better information about the location and condition of products that can be achieved with RFID that makes it so attractive to a growing number of companies – large and small – all around the world.
The new EU Food Traceability Directive, Wal-Mart, other retail and US and UK Military initiatives, combined with a range of other business drivers, all make this the right time to start. The technology is maturing. Performance has dramatically improved. These improvements include longer read-range and faster anti-collision management. Developments in tag fastening and tag encapsulation material have opened up more opportunities for applying RFID in a wide range of environments and conditions. The economics are favourable and the technology is now becoming very affordable and the business case compelling.
Add to this the fact that standards are now coming into place globally and it is no longer a matter of when will the RFID technology take off, but how should companies approach it and reap of the benefits for their business.
